Kelechi Iheanacho will return but Jamie Vardy is set to miss out when Leicester City head to Birmingham City on Monday.
City had seven senior players missing on Wednesday night as they came from behind to beat Millwall and return to the top of the Championship table. Both of Enzo Maresca’s leading two strikers were among the unavailable contingent again, with Patson Daka starting and scoring for the second straight game.
But Iheanacho will be back to provide competition to him and Tom Cannon at St Andrew’s on Monday night after recovering from illness. Vardy is not expected to feature though as he continues to recover from a knee injury.
Iheanacho may be the only player of the seven missing on Wednesday who returns. Harry Souttar was out with illness in midweek so is a contender to come back, but Yunus Akgun, Kasey McAteer, Marc Albrighton, and Callum Doyle are not likely to, albeit the latter is now “very close” after spending close to three months out with a knee issue
“Jamie, I think he needs some days,” Maresca said after Wednesday’s victory. “Kele is alright, he can be for the next one.
“Yunus could be for the next one or not. Callum is very close. Harry was ill, so he can be fine for the next one. Marc Albrighton had a kick in his knee, so we don’t know for Monday. Probably for Monday, the only one is Kele. The rest are going to struggle.”
Blues are themselves without several important players, including both front-line right backs, but will go into the game buoyed by their first away win under Wayne Rooney. While the Foxes were beating Millwall, Blues turned in a decent 90 to defeat Cardiff City 1-0.
