Everton could land points deduction lifeline in surprise twist – Keith Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness believes the club be handed a “valuable” points deduction lifeline with a surprise twist on the cards.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed suspended points is now the hope on Merseyside.
The Toffees have been deducted eight points this season following breaches of the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs).
Sean Dyche’s side have been handed six and two-point deductions respectively, with the former reduced from 10 points following an appeal.
Wyness shares Everton lifeline ahead of appeal verdict
The second charge is currently under appeal, with the Premier League confirming on Friday (19 April) that the outcome of the appeal will be announced before the end of the current campaign.
The Toffees currently sit 16th in the Premier League table, with their goal difference taking a blow after the recent 6-0 loss to Chelsea.
“Suspended points is what we would really hope for,” he told the Inside Track podcast. “Suspended points would be good.
“I’m still concerned about where it will go, whether it could be a half-point deduction still, could be cancelled, it’s still strange as to where we might end up. “But of course half a point could be just as valuable as goal difference these days. It would be huge. Everton seemed to lose a bit of traction on goal difference against Chelsea.”
