Norwich News: Duffy returns to full training

Head coach David Wagner has confirmed that central defender Shane Duffy has returned to full team training.

The Republic of Ireland international last featured against Coventry in early February, but has now been made available again ahead of Friday’s fixture against Plymouth Argyle.

Wagner also added that there are no further injury concerns after the international break.

“Luckily, everyone came back healthy from the internationals. Duffy is back in training since Monday, so it looks like the same squad plus him,” he said.

“They (Josh Sargent and Grant Hanley) were in the treatment room, and joined a few sessions during the break. Grant is on an individual programme until the end of April and we hope to have him back as sharp and explosive as he was before.

“I’m not a manager who will rush players back into team training or game time. At the end of the day, if you are calm in those situations, it will pay off. The medical department tells the fitness department to take over and then they pass it on to me.”

There are now just eight games left in the Championship season, but Wagner maintains that he and his squad will be looking at the scheduled one at a time.

Norwich’s visit to Home Park in September resulted in a 6-2 defeat, one that the squad will be using for motivation this week.

“We’re only looking at the next game, same as we have done for recent weeks and months. It’s got us to a situation we are now in and we’re excited about what’s in front of us,” he added.

“We know what we experienced when we went there. Our supporters will be on board with us, the energy we’ll create, like we have in recent home games, is what we need to get a positive result.

“We need to show we are better than when we went there.”

Now into the top six, Wagner has also outline that the recent run, particularly at Carrow Road, has instilled a lot of confidence in his side.

“It’s great to go from 17th to where we are now, it’s great to have a good home record in recent games, we’ve been more consistent and stable away from home, they’re all things that grow confidence.

“Everyone believes, and we are desperate to keep going. I’ve spoken to some of the guys, and you really get the sense that they can’t wait to play the next one. The prize is clear, another three points at home.”
