Yankees Social Media Spotlight: The Miracle at the Garden

A pair of Yankees visited the Garden and learned how to snatch the unlikeliest of postseason victories from the jaws of defeat.

It’s Sunday once again, and you know what that means — it’s time for our weekly social media roundup! Last week, the Yankees started a tough part of their schedule, in which they play 17 games in 17 days, by taking two of three from the Tampa Bay Rays and splitting a four-game set with the Oakland Athletics. Despite their busy schedules, the Yankees still took some time out for some hijinks. Let’s see what they’ve been up to!

G and V at MSG

It was a bit week at Madison Square Garden, as the Knicks and Rangers hosted the first round of their respective playoffs. With a day game on Monday, Giancarlo Stanton and Anthony Volpe decided to hit MSG for Game 2 between the Knicks and Sixers that night, and boy, were they treated to a memorable game! Down five with less than thirty seconds remaining, Jalen Brunson and Donte DiVincenzo each hit three-pointers, Josh Hart secured a critical steal, and Isiah Hartenstein made a big rebound to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. It was the second-craziest ending to a basketball game that Brunson and DiVincenzo had ever been a part of, and an electric moment in the city of New York.

After losing Game 3 in Philadelphia, maybe the Knicks need to bring in the Yankees hitters as good luck charms, much like the Rangers had the Giants coaching staff a couple of years ago.

Happy Birthday, Art!

Earlier this week, Art Schallock turned 100 years old. The oldest living former MLB player, the pitcher was part of three Yankees World Series titles. In celebration, multiple members of the organization sent him birthday wishes, and the team gifted him a jersey with the number 100 on it.

Space Exploration

Jasson Domínguez, AKA The Martian, has been making great progress as he recovers from Tommy John surgery. Even though he’s not playing, he’s still keeping tabs on the team — in between reels and stories about videogames like Fortnite (and all the other things that 21 year old kids do), he posted in support of his teammates.

You’ll be back out there soon enough, Jasson.

Karaoke Go-Tos

This week, the YES Network asked the Yankees what their go-to song is when they sing karaoke. Most of the players refused to sing a line from the song when prompted … judging from the performances of those who did sing, they were mercifully sparing our ears.

Ashley tweeting through her husband’s starts

If you’ve been following this series, a recurring segment has been Ashley Rodón tweeting through her husband’s starts. This week, Carlos happened to be on the mound for the craziest event of the week, and she said what we were all thinking: She also continued to complain about the strike zone — even when the Yankees were hitting!
