Charlton Athletic have reportedly reignited their interest in Coventry City striker Matty Godden heading into the summer transfer window.
The 32-year-old has made 155 appearances for the Sky Blues and scored a half-century of goals since his arrival in 2019. His arrival aided in the club’s promotion to the Championship and he has remained part of Mark Robins’ squad that has pushed towards the top-flight.
However, given the fact he has one year remaining on his current deal and he has fallen down the pecking order at the Coventry Building Society Arena, there is a decision to be made – cash in now, offer a new contract or risk losing the player on a free transfer in 2025.
“I’m absolutely delighted and it’s something I’ve wanted and now I can concentrate on this season and next season and see where we can go,” he stated at the time.
“I’ve enjoyed it more here than wherever I’ve been and my family and everyone else has bought into it. We love the area, and we love the club and it’s something we’re all delighted to get over the line.”
However, it is also made clear a move for Godden is uncertain as before Charlton fix their attacking problem, the priority will be to tighten their defensive line as in the recent campaign they conceded more goals than scored. To do this, a goalkeeper signing will take priority.
