Atlanta dropped three straight games (all close games) after pulling ahead to 6-4, but they eventually won on Wednesday against the Brooklyn Nets. Following a homestand, the Hawks will embark on a five-game road trip starting Saturday. It will be difficult, but an opportunity for Atlanta to compete against the top teams in the Eastern Conference and demonstrate their ability to rank among the conference’s top six teams.
Atlanta’s first game will be away against Washington, who is perhaps the weakest NBA team. This isn’t exactly what I had in mind when I suggested the Hawks will be tested on this road trip, but given Atlanta’s defensive style, Washington may score some points. Even yet, this game should be won by the Hawks.
The key test will be a replay of the first round playoff series from the previous season on Sunday. The Celtics, who have appeared to be the greatest NBA club this season, will host Atlanta on their trip to Boston. Kristaps Porzingis appears to be a fantastic addition, Jayson Tatum is playing like an MVP contender, and Jrue Holiday is settling in nicely. This is the NBA’s most complete team, and it is the kind of team that can seriously hurt the Hawks.
I’m curious to see how Atlanta does against the defense of Boston. With players like Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, Holiday, and Tatum, the Celtics can match up with the Hawks and mix up their lineup. The Celtics will be a tough test for Atlanta, who boast one of the finest offenses in the NBA.
Following Atlanta’s game against Boston, they will travel to Cleveland to play the Cavaliers. Cleveland still possesses one of the most talented squads in the Eastern Conference, despite their sluggish start to the season due to injuries. Donavan Mitchell and Darius Garland, a guard duo, will test Atlanta’s defensive readiness.
After that, Atlanta will get its first glimpse of San Antonio’s rookie sensation, Victor Wembanyama. Wembanyama leads the team in blocks, rebounds, and points because to his incredible play. Wembanyama’s ability to have an impact on both sides of the court provides the Spurs, who haven’t been a good team overall, a chance in any game.
The Hawks will wrap up their tour in a location where they have already experienced a significant victory this year. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard of Milwaukee will meet Atlanta, who is going to play much better than they did when they won handily earlier in the season. The Bucks are 10-5, and Giannis is playing like a candidate for MVP.
