Aston Villa keen to sign Leeds United youngster Archie Gray

Aston Villa have become the latest club to have shown keen interest in signing Leeds United youngster Archie Gray.

The Villans have been very busy in the transfer window, and they have already signed Ian Maatsen from Chelsea

Villa have also brought Lewis Dobbin to Villa Park who joined from Everton. With Douglas Luiz off to Juventus in a cash-plus player swap deal, Villa have taken well care of their PSR limits.

Unai Emery can focus on signing new players, and it seems they have joined the race for Gray, who was magnificent last season for Leeds.

A host of Premier League clubs, including Chelsea, Brighton, Brentford, and Tottenham Hotspur, have shown interest in the highly-rated midfielder this summer, but the Whites have not received any official bids yet.

According to Adam Pope, Villa have joined the race to sign the 18-year-old versatile player who is seen as their “crown jewel”

Writing on X (29 June), the BBC journalist reported that other clubs’ interest in Gray is “constant” as Gray is a generational talent.

Ideally, Leeds want to keep hold of their prized asset, but there’s a harsh world out there where top clubs have the money to lure any player they want. That is why Paraag Marathe refused to rule out the possibility of an exit.

Pope wrote: “Interest in Archie Gray has been constant. Brentford, Spurs & Villa the latest to all be vying for the sort of generational talent that doesn’t come along too often.

“It’s a harsh world out there, hence Paraag Marathe being unable to say they could definitely hold on to him.”

The youngster is passionate about representing his boyhood club, but Leeds would struggle to keep hold of him if top clubs come up with a big offer.

Having failed to secure promotion to the Premier League, the Whites are in a difficult situation at the moment where they need to offload a few players to comply with financial rules.

Ideally, Gray should stay for one more season and help the club achieve promotion to the Premier League next season. If they fail again, then he can look to move elsewhere.

Villa have lost two exciting players this summer. Tim Iroegbunam has moved to Goodison Park while Omari Kellyman will head to Stamford Bridge to join Chelsea. They need quality young talents, and Gray could be a massive signing at Villa Park.
