The Chicago Bears have released safety Eddie Jackson and offensive lineman Cody Whitehair, who were among the team’s longest-tenured players.
Jackson was slated to have a $18.14 million cap hit in 2024. But his release frees up $12.56 million in additional cap space. Whitehair had a $13.25 million cap hit, and his release cleared up $9.15 million. In all, Chicago freed up $21.71 million in cap space.
Where things will stand after the Jackson and Whitehair releases, the Bears are expected to have roughly $67 million in 2024, which is the third most in the league. That gives general manager Ryan Poles plenty to work with as he looks to build the roster in free agency.
Here’s a look at the 10 biggest cap hits currently on the books for the Bears in 2024, after the Jackson and Whitehair releases.
