Why spurs have change their stance on player to leave in January

Over the last few days, it has emerged that the Dane is also in the sights of Ajax, with the Dutch club thought to view the  Tottenham man as the ideal option to bolster their midfield.

There have also been contradictory reports on Tottenham’s stance on the matter, with The Sun claiming on November 16 that Spurs expect the 28-year-old to stay.

Meanwhile, a few days prior to that, Football Insider had stated that the Lilywhites are willing to offload the player if they can bring a replacement in.

Brown has now shed light on Hojbjerg’s future, explaining that the former Southampton man now has a potential lifeline at Tottenham but adding that Ange Postecoglou’s men could still move him on if a sufficient offer arrives.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think, until recently, Hojbjerg was almost certain to go. He knows that the club have been listening to offers for him, and he wasn’t really getting in the team.

“Over the last few weeks – because of problems in the squad – he has found a way back in. I think his future is now up in the air, but that’s mainly because Spurs are still demanding quite a high transfer fee for him, which is currently putting people off.

“But I think there are several clubs that will test the water here in January. If any of them come close to the kind of fee that Spurs are looking for, it may well be that Hojbjerg still leaves.”
