Everton put £20m PL star on January shortlist, but have to sell ‘big asset’ first
Everton’s silent January transfer window has been a frustrating one, although shockingly not too dissimilar from the rest of the division.
It feels like the Premier League, in their efforts to prove their strength and independance, have instead hamstrung even their greatest assets this month.
There are 17 sides who are yet to make a single signing for the starting side, so whilst Sean Dyche will be frustrated at the lack of action, he is not alone.
Everyone is seemingly petrified of falling foul of these severe and ever-changing rules which first deducted ten points, and is now seeking more.
And yet, one journalist still remains incensed that there could still be an incoming at Goodison Park, potentially snagging Frank Onyeka from a Premier League rival…
Could Everton sign Frank Onyeka?
Although they are relatively stacked in the midfield, it seems Kevin Thelwell and Dyche have focused in on another enforcer to bolster their engine room.
And, with financial restraints an unrelenting issue that continues to plague Everton, perhaps this proposed £20m deal might mark an alternative for if they were to give in to the immense pressure and offload Amadou Onana.
After all, there are more than enough suitors seemingly waiting to pry him or Jarrad Branthwaite from Merseyside.
Well, journalist Paul Brown would tell GIVEMESPORT how there could be something of a transfer merry-go-round, as he claimed: ‘It seems pretty clear to me that Everton are trying to sign a midfielder.
‘That suggests that one of their current midfielders is likely to be sold or that at least they are looking to sell this month. I don’t think Everton’s financial position currently makes it possible for the club to do any transfer business for a substantial fee unless someone is sold.‘So I think you can draw your own conclusions from the fact that there are several midfielders who have been linked to the club and there are agents out there who clearly think that Everton are trying to sign one. Onyeka I’m sure is on the list.‘But any deals that get done this month will have to be ones in the bargain basement unless they are able to sell a big asset. So I think it’s a case of watch this space.’
