RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner is expected to have a medical at Tottenham tomorrow (7 January) as they close in on a loan-to-buy deal for the ex-Chelsea man, sources have told Football Insider.
As revealed by Football Insider on Saturday (6 January), the 27-year-old has “said yes” to Spurs’ proposal.
Talks between Tottenham and Leipzig are now at the final stages as Ange Postecoglou’s side close in on an early-window deal for Werner.
It is believed the discussions are centering on an initial loan – with a buy option currently the main point of contention.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the two clubs are discussing a loan with an option-to-buy clause set at around £30million.
Tottenham, who didn’t replace Harry Kane with an out-and-out striker following his summer exit, are currently without Heung-min Son after he headed off to the Asian Games.
But Spurs are now set to beat off lots of other Premier League interest in Werner – with Man United, Liverpool, Newcastle and Aston Villa all keeping tabs on his situation.
He is primed to leave the Leipzig training camp and head to Tottenham to undergo a medical.
The former Chelsea man, who won the Champions League during his time at Stamford Bridge, has hit just two goals in 14 appearances for Leipzig this season – and has started in just four of those outings.
He notched 23 goals and 21 assists in 89 games for the Blues before leaving in 2022.
Tottenham sit fifth in the Premier League after 20 top-flight games this season.
If a deal is wrapped up as expected, Werner could make his Spurs bow away at Man United next week (14 January)
