Ryan Sessegnon has undergone surgery to his right hamstring

Tottenham left-back Ryan Sessegnon has shared an emotional statement on social media after undergoing a second hamstring surgery in seven months.

The 23-year-old suffered more injury heartache last week when he pulled up just 35 minutes into his return during a Spurs Under 21s match.

Sessegnon has only featured once for Spurs this season, making his solitary appearance as a late substitute in their 1-0 win over Burnley in the FA Cup third-round.

‘Ryan Sessegnon has undergone surgery to his right hamstring following an injury during an Under 21s match,’ said the club.

‘The 23-year-old will continue to be closely monitored by our medical team to determine when he can return to training.’

It seems the young full-back will now have to wait until next season to make an impact in Ange Postecoglu’s side.

His contract is due to expire next season, so he will be hoping that, following rehabilitation, he can make enough of an impression to stay in north London.

Sessegnon shared his disappointment on the injury via X, formerly Twitter, and is grateful for the support he has received.

He said: ‘Gutted beyond belief. Just when I saw a light at the end of the tunnel, and thought I was back doing what I love, I’ve hit another setback.
