There aren’t many players in the Premier League who are in more unfortunate situations than Ryan Sessegnon at Tottenham Hotspur.
The 23-year-old just can’t seem to catch a break because he has been hit with injury after injury after injury during his time at Hotspur Way.
The versatile defender has had to undergo a second hamstring surgery in seven months after picking up another muscle injury 35 minutes into his comeback.
That happened during an U21 game for Tottenham ten days ago, and on Monday night, he posted an emotional message to fans on Instagram.
Ryan Sessegnon, who has only featured once under Ange Postecoglou for Tottenham this season, stated that he is ‘gutted beyond belief’.
His former teammate, and now Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters, reacted to the news, amongst others, including Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze.
The former Fulham wonderkid added ’speaking on behalf of anyone who’s been in this situation, please be careful what you say online. Words hurt and no-one chooses to be in this position’.
Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze sent a praying and heart emoji to the defender, with Brennan Johnson telling his teammate ‘All behind you, brother’.
What will be gutting about all of this is the fact that he is a top, top player and someone who was very highly rated when at Fulham.
As a teenager, he was scoring goals for fun in the Championship with many, at the time, even backing him to earn a call-up for England.
Sessegnon did help Fulham earn promotion, before securing a £25 million transfer to Spurs, where he has been hit with injury after injury.
At the age of 23, he still has a lot of light ahead of him and he has a contract at Tottenham until 2025, so he has the time to get back up again and try to find some luck in his footballing life.
