Wrexham keen on swoop for soon-to-be free agent from the Premier League

Wrexham are eyeing up a permanent swoop for Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, as detailed in a report by The Sun.
Wrexham are keen to lure the stopper to the Racecourse Ground on a permanent basis this summer following their promotion from League Two.

Okonkwo, 22, has impressed between the sticks for the Welsh side since joining them on a temporary basis last year.

The Sun report the Red Dragons are now interested in snapping him up on a long-term basis but their chances of landing him will depend on his ‘wage’ demands.

Okonkwo is due to return to Arsenal at the end of his loan in Wales but he is out of contract with the Gunners at the end of this campaign.

He is down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium behind the likes of David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale and it remains to be seen whether he will be offered an extension by the Premier League title hopefuls at this stage.

If not, he would become available as a free agent and the Red Dragons would be able to sign him for nothing which would be a great bit of business.

Okonkwo has made the number one spot his own for Phil Parkinson’s side this term and has earned a place in the Team of the Season in the fourth tier after keeping 15 clean sheets.

He has been on the books at Arsenal for his whole career to date but has never played for their first-team. The ‘keeper has had spells away from the London outfit in the past at Crewe Alexandra and Sturm Graz to get some experience under his belt.

The ex-England youth international would be an ideal addition for Wrexham as they prepare for life in League One.

They booked their promotion last time out after battering Forest Green Rovers 6-0 at home.

Wrexham now want the title and are battling Stockport County for top spot. Next up is an away trip to Crewe.
