‘Worried’ over Callum O’Hare contract uncertain

Coventry City contract news from CoventryLive as Sky Blues legend Steve Ogrizovic expresses his concerns about Callum O’Hare’s contract situation.

Steve Ogrizovic has expressed his concern over Callum O’Hare’s contract situation at Coventry City, fearing that the club have “missed a trick” by failing to get the attacking midfielder signed up on a new deal when he was out with a long-term injury.

The Sky Blues star, who is in the last six and half months of his current deal at the CBS Arena, revealed recently that he is yet to be offered fresh terms to extend his stay at the club, despite club owner Doug King having said in October that negotiations had opened between the two parties.

Club legend Oggy, who still follows the club week in and week out as a co-commentator with BBC CWR, spoke about O’Hare’s contract situation during Friday night’s Sound of the Sky Blues phone-in show.

“On the question of is he going to get a new contract or not, I think the club missed a trick when Callum was injured,” he said of the player who will be a free agent come June. “He was top player before that, and I know he had his hamstring problem before his Boxing Day injury, but we know he’s a talisman for the side and I just think it would have been a real fillip for him at a time when he had got his long-term injury.

“It was an opportunity for the club to say, ‘you’ve been great for us,’ and actually they would have got him cheaper by signing him back then than if they would do now, so I just feel they may have missed a trick.”

The 25-year-old has returned to top form in recent weeks after ten months out with a ruptured ACL, scoring two goals to sink Birmingham last week and setting up Haji Wright to score against Southampton last time out.
