Why Stoke City parted ways with Head of Recruitment Lee Darnbrough

Stoke City have parted ways with Head of Recruitment Lee Darnbrough after an eight-month tenure. Darnbrough joined the club in May 2024, bringing over 20 years of experience in football recruitment, including roles at Hull City, Norwich City, Burnley, and West Bromwich Albion.

During his time at Stoke, Darnbrough oversaw several key signings aimed at strengthening the squad. Notable acquisitions included goalkeeper Viktor Johansson from Rotherham United and center-back Ben Gibson from Norwich City. Johansson, a 25-year-old Swedish international, was brought in to enhance the team’s defensive capabilities, while Gibson, 31, was expected to provide leadership and experience to the backline.

Darnbrough’s departure marks the second change in Stoke’s recruitment leadership within a year. He had succeeded Jared Dublin, who left the club in early 2024 after less than a year in the role.

The club has not yet announced a successor for the Head of Recruitment position. This development comes at a critical time as Stoke City prepares for the upcoming transfer window, aiming to build a squad capable of competing effectively in the Championship.

Stoke City fans will be keen to see how the club navigates this transition and what impact it will have on future transfer dealings. The appointment of a new Head of Recruitment will be crucial in shaping the team’s strategy and performance in the coming seasons.
