Cannon joined City in a £7.5 million deal from Everton on deadline day, but a back injury that was discovered during his medical meant that he had to wait until earlier this month for his debut for the club.
Despite being fit enough to be on the bench for a few weeks prior, Cannon was an unused substitute for four Championship games.
He eventually made his first City appearance as a second-half substitute against Plymouth just over a week ago. Injury and illness to Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho left Patson Daka and Cannon as the only two fit strikers in the first-team squad. Daka was chosen to start the last two games, scoring in both, but Cannon has come off the bench in the two games.
According to the Sun’s Alan Nixon , City have received loan ‘requests’ for Cannon ahead of the January window, but they have turned them down and are planning on keeping the striker at the King Power at the end of the season. It is also said that City are planning on giving the 20-year-old more minutes in the second half of the campaign,
The report adds that Cannon himself is happy to stay and fight for his place at the club. He could get another chance to impress when City take on Birmingham City at St Andrew’s on Monday night, it has already been confirmed that Vardy will not be available for the game.
Cannon has proven that he can score goals in the Championship during a loan spell at Preston North End last season. He scored a total of eight times in 21 appearances for the club after joining on a temporary deal from Everton.
