Former Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is on thin ice as his Crystal Palace side prepare to face the Reds this weekend.
The Eagles lost 2-0 to Bournemouth at Selhurst Park on Wednesday night – their fifth defeat in the last seven outings.
As a result, Palace now sit 14th in the Premier League table after 15 matches, still nine points above the relegation zone.
Hodgson – who had an object thrown at him from the stands during the midweek defeat – riled fans after the match with his comments to Amazon Prime.
He told the broadcaster: “The fact is the fans have been spoiled here in recent times.”
The Mail now reports that Hodgson’s future is under scrutiny from the decision makers at Selhurst Park, though the preference is still for the veteran manager to leave at the end of the season when his contract expires.
While Hodgson is likely to be in the dugout for the visit of Liverpool on Saturday, another defeat will pile further pressure on the former England manager, amid “growing agitation behind the scenes at Palace”.
The Mail’s piece claims that former Liverpool youth coach and current Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper is among the replacements being looked at.
It is said that interest in Cooper could be ramped up if he is removed from his post at Forest.
Liverpool go into the game this weekend having just beaten Sheffield United, who sacked manager Paul Heckingbottom and replaced him with Chris Wilder only a day prior to the fixture.
The Reds’ recent record against Palace is strong, having not lost to the London club in any of their last 13 meetings.
Meanwhile, Hodgson has only three wins against Liverpool in 18 career attempts as a manager.
