Why Fernandinho reacts to Phil Foden’s latest award

In a recent post on his official X account, Fernandinho said that it was “well deserved” that Phil Foden was named the Football Writers’ Association’s Men’s Player of the Year.

The Brazilian also included two photos of him and Foden together during their time at City, one of the duo sitting next to each other on the substitutes bench for a Champions League game and the other of them celebrating a goal together during the 2020/21 season.

Phil Foden has been on fire this season

In terms of the England international’s efforts in the Premier League this season, he has scored 16 goals and delivered seven assists in 31 games.

In addition to that, Foden has racked up the second-highest total of shots on target (40), key passes (64), successful take-ons (42), shot-creating actions (125) and goal-creating actions (18) in the City squad.

His overall performances have earned him a season rating of 7.52/10 from WhoScored, making him one of the highest-rated players in the division.

With all of that in mind, it’s easy to see why Fernandinho thinks his former teammate deserves to be recognised for his efforts in the Premier League this season.

Moving forward, with City having four games left to play before the campaign ends, if Foden can add more goals and assists to his tally and help his side win another title, he will definitely find himself on the end of even more praise.
