Why Bears trade Justin Fields in Shocking 2024 Trade Proposal

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields has shown more and more glimpses of being the offensive team leader the front office imagined he would be when they selected him in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. But is his growing field maturity and efficiency making the case for him remaining in Chicago or is it merely bolstering his trade value on the open market?

It’s almost a sure thing now that the Bears will have the overall no. 1 pick in this coming year’s draft from the Carolina Panthers. That means they’ll have first dibs on blue chip quarterback and Heisman Award winner Caleb Williams from USC. It also means that the temptation to move on from the 3-year veteran Fields will be immense.

But the Bears have options and, one would assume, the team is tossing around ideas regarding Fields and his future.

One option would just have Fields staying put while the team continues to build around him. They could even possibly trade away the no. 1 pick for the second straight season to add more talent, dropping a bit lower in the draft to have access to more of what they need.

Another option, of course, is to select Williams no. 1 and, before that, trade Justin Fields for more draft capital.

That second option seems to be the more popular and widely held prediction for the team’s course of action.

In a projected trade proposal, first published by FanNation Falcon Report, the Chicago Bears and The Atlanta Falcons would get together and make a swap for Justin Fields that would seem to be beneficial

“The Falcons would send a second-round pick this year and a 2025 second-round pick with incentives that can turn into a first-rounder ‘based on production and playing time’ to the Bears for Fields.

Young QB of the future Desmond Ridder was benched multiple times in favor of Taylor Heinicke, who completed less than 60% of his passes with a rating somewhere in the 80’s. It’s a bleak outlook for an otherwise fairly talented roster, begging for an expensive quick fix this March,’ Spotrac writes.”

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the Falcons, who will be in town to play against Fields and the Bears this coming Sunday in the penultimate game of the season, may be scouting the Chicago quarterback for a possible gig as the team’s starter.

Bringing Fields, the Georgia native and lifelong Falcons fan, to Atlanta would be a fitting backtrack to reverse a mistake many felt the team made back in 2021 when they had the no. 4 overall pick in the draft and opted to pass over the Ohio State standout.

Instead, the Falcons drafted Florida tight end Kyle Pitts, who had a fine rookie year, recording the second-most receiving yards among rookie tight ends in NFL history and nabbing a Pro Bowl spot. Pitts, however, has never quite been able to replicate that magic he flashed in his first season.

Meanwhile, the Falcons have been floundering at quarterback, with young prospect Desmond Ridder being benched multiple times and the backup options behind him not doing too well, either.

Frankly put, the Falcons are simply too good, overall, to be weighed down by a hole in the most crucial quarterback position. And with their 2024 draft pick coming somewhere after no. 10, selecting a quarterback impact player is somewhat of an impossibility.

So, trading for Fields would appear to be the logical move for a “ready right now” QB on a “ready to win right now” team.

Other teams, though, have emerged as potential suitors for the 24-year-old Fields. Notably, the Las Vegas Raiders, New York Jets, Washington Commanders, Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints, and Minnesota Vikings have all been mentioned as potential interested parties.
