Why Alex Neil is sure of Campbell goal scoring ability

Tyrese Campbell of Stoke City is challenged by Michal Helik of Huddersfield Town

Alex Neil is sure that fit-again Tyrese Campbell will help solve Stoke City’s scoring blues.

Stoke head to Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday evening on the back of a three-game streak without a goal but Campbell returned from injury with a bright cameo in defeat to Blackburn on Saturday and is pushing for a place in the starting XI. Summer signings Andre Vidigal and Ryan Mmaee are also hoping to win back places in attack but Sead Haksabanovic (groin) misses out again

Neil said: “I see all the forwards, when they become available, being a major positive. That will give us more variety, it will give us different options in the games. Tye in particular has a skill set that very few players at this level have got in terms of his blistering pace and a really good left foot, he’s got all the attributes. Of course we view Tye being back available as being really beneficial for the team and club. I would say the same about Haksabanovic and Ryan Mmaee. For all those players who have been out over the last few weeks, when we get them back we’re naturally going to be a stronger outfit, more potent and cause more problems, create more opportunities.”

There has only been one day back in training to address issues Neil highlighted after the Blackburn game, including not moving the ball quickly enough nor getting enough runners behind the opposition defence.

But the manager said: “You’ll only get bits and bobs on the training pitch but we’re dealing with guys who have played football all their lives. It’s not difficult. You do understand sometimes when you get drawn to the ball and it’s compact and moves from side to side. It’s not that difficult to turn the ball a little bit more, get runners in behind and make sure we’re threatening that back line more.
