The San Francisco 49ers are once again of the last four teams standing in the NFL and are the favorites to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.
Yet San Francisco was not the franchise with the most players on the Pro Football Writers of America’s All-NFL team.
San Francisco had four players named to that team, with running back Christian McCaffrey, tight end George Kittle, left tackle Trent Williams and linebacker Fred Warner all receiving that distinction.
Instead the Dallas Cowboys, knocked out in the wild-card round of the playoffs, had a league-high five players named to the All-NFL team.
Nick Bosa, the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year, was named to the All-NFC team along with McCaffrey, Kittle, Williams and Warner.
Snubbed from both teams, however, were wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and Charvarius Ward, both of whom were named as second-team All-Pros by the Associated Press.
Aiyuk finished with 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns in the regular season, while Ward had five interceptions and a league-high 23 pass breakups.
Neither will care much about missing out after receiving All-Pro recognition, but their omissions are a bit of superfluous extra fuel for them to shine on a huge stage in Sunday’s NFC Championship Game and help propel the 49ers to the Super Bowl.
