West Ham United are reportedly preparing an offer for Ipswich Town left-back Leif Davis, according to GiveMeSport.
The report on 17 April states that Ipswich failing to earn promotion from the Championship would increase the likelihood of the Hammers tabling a bid – but that they would still consider testing the Tractor Boys’ resolve even if they come up.
Davis’ impressive performances in the second tier have caught the eye at West Ham – but it is likely that his current employers would demand a fee in the region of £20million to part with their prized asset.
West Ham United shortlist high-flying Leif Davis
It is little wonder that the Hammers are keen on Davis, given the strength of his displays for Ipswich this season.
The left-back has played a crucial part in their promotion charge – particularly going forward. In fact, no player in the Championship has managed more assists than his 17 so far, topping a chart packed with forwards and attacking midfielders.
Davis’ impressive showings have earned him a deserved place in the Championship Team of the Season – and he will be hoping that is not the only accolade he earns this campaign as Ipswich push for promotion.
Should the 24-year-old make the switch to West Ham, he will be treading the same path as Aaron Cresswell did in 2014 – and, ironically, Cresswell is likely to be the man whose place he takes in the squad, given the veteran defender’s contract expires at the end of the season.
Emerson Palmieri is likely to remain and battle for a starting spot with Davis – or whoever the club end up signing at left-back this summer.
