West Ham given chance to sign defender target on loan

Despite the obvious flaws in the wider squad of West Ham United, their limited budget means that their options for improving it are extremely limited. In order to purchase almost anyone this month they will need to sell. Given that there is only a matter of days remaining though it seems less and less likely this will happen.

However, there is no doubt they will be considering dipping into the loan market once again after the signing of Kalvin Phillips. According to Football Insider, Chelsea would now allow West Ham target Trevor Chalobah to leave on loan.

ExWHUEmployee exclusively revealed the Hammers interest in the centre-back weeks ago, but it was only expected we would make a move for him if Nayef Aguerd was sold. Now that the Englishman has been made available for loan, the Irons may be interested either way.

Both Aguerd and Mavropanos have been shaky throughout the season, making massive mistakes that have led to goals. Moyes may hope that 6’4 Chalobah can slot alongside Zouma to make the defence more sound.

Unfortunately, there are some major concerns over the young defender though. The most obvious is his injury issues. He has been out with a hamstring injury since August and has yet to feature for Chelsea this season. If he is still injured then it would make it unlikely that he would move to East London.

On top of this, Nottingham Forest and Fulham are also interested in signing the 24 year old. Both of them are more likely to guarantee him game time which could persuade him to join them over the Hammers.

Obviously there is little risk if it is purely a loan deal, but the Blues are reportedly wanting an obligation to buy put in. If that is the case, it may be the deciding factor that puts our Irons off signing him.
