West Ham ace Ben Johnson closes in on free transfer after Leeds reveal

Leeds United long-term target Ben Johnson is ready to leave West Ham on a free transfer at the end of this season, sources have told Football Insider.

As revealed by Football Insider in January, Leeds and Rangers were among the clubs interested in the right-back in January and could re-enter the race for his signature this summer when he is available for nothing.

Johnson, 24, came through the ranks at West Ham but is ready to leave the club when his contract expires in June.

It is believed he is keen to take advantage of his free agent status and secure a move away from the London Stadium this summer.

Leeds are long-term admirers of the defender, who is valued highly by clubs at the top of the Championship and in the Premier League for his versatility.

The former England Under-21 international has played in various positions since breaking through at West Ham, including right-back, left-back and centre-back, as well as right, left and central midfield.

It is believed multiple clubs will try and convince Johnson to join them for the 2024-25 campaign.

He has made 22 appearances across all competitions for West Ham this term.

However, only seven of those outings have come as part of the Irons’ starting lineup.

Johnson, who has rejected several contract renewal offers at the London Stadium, has made 109 senior appearances for his boyhood club since making his debut in 2019.
