“we need to get new Coventry recruits as quickly as we can”-Mark Robins

Mark Robins remains hopeful of acting early in the transfer window in a bid to get as many new Coventry City recruits in for pre-season.

The Sky Blues boss was frustrated last summer when his plans were hampered as he undertook a major squad rebuild, with 14 players leaving and ten new arrivals over the course of the three months of trading, with the majority not dropping in until the start of the new campaign.

“We tried last year (to get players in early) but it’s the market, it’s agents and the players, individuals and where they are at,” he explained. “If we’re buying, what about the selling club? They have to be willing sellers, so there’s a lot of things and it’s really complicated.

“So I am not going to put anyone under any pressure for that but yes, we need them as quickly as we can and if we can get them in for the first day of pre-season that will be good – and I am sure we will get some in for then – but by any stretch I don’t think there will be everyone we are looking to do in by then.

“I don’t think we will have filled every position by then, and it may even be the start of the season as it was this year. So it just is what it is. We are just in a better starting point now. But we will look forward to that once we have had a recharge.”
