‘We had chances’ to beat leeds but we failed -Robins

Coventry City manager Mark Robins

Coventry City manager Mark Robins was proud of his players but admitted “disappointment” at not beating Leeds United. The Sky Blues rode their luck on several occasions to grind out a gritty 1-1 draw against the Whites.

Georginio Rutter, in particular, missed two big chances to snatch all three points but fluffed his lines. Daniel James also scuffed a stoppage-time effort from point-blank range as Coventry held on to draw.

However, the visitors remained competitive throughout the contest and had opportunities to score themselves. Kasey Palmer almost sent the away end into raptures when he forced Illan Meslier into a save three minutes from time.

Speaking post-match, Coventry boss Robins praised his players’ fitness levels following the quick turnaround but confessed he wanted more than just a point. The 53-year-old said: “When we play Southampton on a Wednesday, Leeds play on a Tuesday and we have to travel afterwards, it makes it even more difficult. I’m not complaining, it’s just how it is.

“But it’s a difficult week for us, especially when we haven’t got the depth of squad others have in the division. So for us to put in a performance like that (was fantastic).
