Following the Celtic versus Kilmarnock match, questions have been raised about the coverage of a significant penalty incident involving Celtic, which was seemingly overlooked by Kris Boyd and Sky Sports’ producers during their half-time analysis.
The incident in question, captured in a circulating video, shows Nat Phillips directing a header towards goal, only for it to be impeded by the outstretched arm of Kilmarnock’s Stewart Findlay.
The nature of the block raised immediate questions about a potential penalty for Celtic. However, this incident did not receive the attention it warranted, neither from the VAR officials during the game nor in the subsequent media analysis.
The lack of VAR intervention in such a clear-cut case was puzzling enough, but the oversight became even more glaring during the half-time discussion led by Kris Boyd. Instead of highlighting this key incident, Boyd and the Sky Sports team chose to focus on the disputed Alistair Johnston penalty decision.
This decision by the broadcast team has been perceived as a clear example of bias, with Boyd’s known leanings further exacerbating the situation.
The failure of Sky Sports to balance their analysis by including the clip of Findlay’s handball has been deemed extraordinary. It raises concerns about the objectivity and comprehensiveness of their football coverage, particularly in matches involving high-profile teams like Celtic.
The selective focus on certain incidents, while ignoring others that are equally, if not more, significant, undermines the credibility of Sky’s coverage.
