Championship new boys linked with move for ex-Preston North End and Stoke City star

He was out on loan at Stoke City last season

Former Preston North End goalkeeper and Player of the Year Daniel Iversen is being linked with a move to Derby County.

The Danish shot-stopper has one year left to run on his Leicester City contract and is expected to leave the Foxes this summer. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Stoke City, making 19 appearances for the Potters as they stayed up.

Iversen kept seven clean sheets for Steven Schumacher’s side, but Stoke moved swiftly to sign Viktor Johansson from Rotherham United this summer. Schumacher explained how Iversen was considered, but his increased wages – due to Leicester’s promotion – was a concern.

The 26-year-old is down the pecking order at Leicester, who have Mads Hermansen, Jakub Stolarczyk and Danny Ward on board. And Derby, who finished second in League One last season, are said to be interested in Iversen.

The Rams are managed by Paul Warne, who was in charge at Rotherham when Iversen spent time on loan there in 2019/20. He then moved to OH Leuven, before two consecutive loan moves to Preston – where he shone. Iversen kept 23 clean sheets for PNE, in 71 appearances.

Earlier this year, the shot-stopper admitted he wanted to leave Leicester in the summer of 2023 and that he’ll seek another move this window. He said: “I thought I should have gone last summer but that didn’t happen for some reason on Leicester’s side.“I was disappointed. I tried to get on loan, but I got a no. I tried to get sold, but got a no. So there was a little bit of frustration from my side. Now in the summer I will try again, but I don’t know where yet that will be.”
