The Golden State Warriors have been looking for a young potential star to replace Steph Curry. They had hoped James Wiseman would be that player during the 2020 NBA Draft, but he was ultimately a huge mistake. It turns out, they had eyes on another player during that draft as well.During an episode of The Old Man & The Three podcast, NBA All-Star Tyrese Haliburton revealed that the Golden State Warriors were interested in drafting him.
“When I got to the NBA, I told this story too, the Warriors were after me pretty hard,” Haliburton said. “Coach Kerr called Coach Walton when I got drafted, and was like, ‘We love him, love his jumper, don’t touch it, like it’s gonna go in.'”
In all honesty, the Warriors quite possibly made one of the worst draft choices possible during the 2020 NBA Draft. The team passed up on the following players: LaMelo Ball, Tyrese Haliburton, Tyrese Maxey, Desmond Bane, Cole Anthony, Immanuel Quickley, and more.
There were so many potential players that could have been that young player to be a new 1-2 punch with Steph Curry. To be that player who could help alleviate that responsibility from Klay Thompson so that he doesn’t have to be the second-best player on the team. Some could argue that’s Andrew Wiggins, but the Warriors had the opportunity for so much more.
