The two key reasons why Crystal Palace will hire Oliver Glasner over Steve Cooper

As Crystal Palace prepare to appoint Oliver Glasner as their manager, reports have outlined the two key reasons that the coach will get the nod over other candidates.

Crystal Palace are bracing themselves for change as it looks almost certain that Oliver Glasner will take over from Roy Hodgson to take the helm at Selhurst Park.

Hodgson’s job has been speculated over in recent weeks due to his side’s poor form, seeing them win just six games from 24 so far in the 2023/24 Premier League campaign.

Sitting just five points above the relegation zone, the time for change is now, as the former Eintracht Frankfurt manager prepares to take the reins from the 76-year-old.

While Glasner is a particularly strong candidate, he wasn’t the only option said to be considered by Steve Parish as former Premier League duo Julen Lopetegui and Steve Cooper have had their names circulated.

As reported yesterday by The Sun, the Austrian is said to have been in conversation with Parish over his pending position, with the 49-year-old a favourite among the Palace board.

Although Parish is by far the most interested in the football side of things from Palace’s owners, the report outlined that the businessman isn’t the only figure in the hierarchy to like Glasner.

It’s mentioned that John Textor admired the Europa League winner when he discussed managerial matters at his other owned club, Olympique Lyonnais.

Aside from liking Glasner’s CV, The Sun outlined two key reasons that place the Austrian above the likes of Cooper and Lopetegui when it came to hiring at Palace.

Due to the former Frankfurt manager being a free agent and being cheap to run when it comes to wage demands, the coach is said to be suitable for the club’s budget needs, as well as being a strong candidate.

As Hodgson’s health remains the priority at Crystal Palace, it’s expected that Monday night’s fixture against Everton will be the 76-year-old’s last in charge of the Eagles.

Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano shared that Glasner is set to take charge of the club on Tuesday, with the 49-year-old also anticipated to be in attendance at Goodison Park.

Yesterday, the Austrian was spotted at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium scouting out his opponents as Palace prepare to travel to Spurs on the opening weekend of the March fixtures.
