The Stanley Cup Final was extended up until Game 7 but the Florida Panthers have finally won it . For three straight games after going up 3-0, Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers were trying to do what was only accomplished by the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs. But, Paul Maurice along with Matthew Tkachuk and Carter Verhaeghe among others avoided being on the short end of that stick.
A lot of collapses happened to the Panthers prior to this Game 7 win with a 2-1 scoreline. However, Paul Maurice managed to keep his team’s composure in this Stanley Cup Final series. By the end of it, they were pushing the puck on their walls. They had earned their first taste of Lord Stanley as a franchise.
Panthers faithful go crazy!
Fans absolutely loved the catharsis of finally closing out the Connor McDavid-led squad. A lot of them had great declarations and praise for the Panthers.
“THIS DAY WILL BE REMEMBERED FOR ME FOREVER. MY FLORIDA PANTHERS ARE STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS,” a user wrote.
Carter Verhaeghe led the charge by scoring one on three shot attempts at the goal. He also had an assist to round out his two points. Aleksander Barkov and Sam Bennett kept pressuring the Oilers’ defense with their four and three shots on goal respectively.
Some were even relieved that Connor McDavid did not get any more wins against Paul Maurice’s Panthers, “Edmonton almost made me eat my words, and that’s fine! Happy for Florida Panthers fans and the franchise. A wonderful Stanley Cup playoffs ended with a great game 7.”
Casual fans of the Dan Lebatard Show even went on to declare why they had the Panthers winning the Stanley Cup Final, “I don’t watch hockey. My only intake of hockey content is through the show. But I really wanted the Panthers to win because Roy pours his heart and soul into covering this team and he deserves it imo. Couldn’t be happier for him.”
Despite the loss, some of the Oilers faithful were still magnanimous after an insane Game 7.
“I was really rooting for them to embarrass the Panthers, but it was a great run regardless. It’s just such a bummer,” they wrote.
Oilers fans left in shambles after Stanley Cup Final loss to Panthers
Connor McDavid ended up winning the Conn Smythe trophy but this was just not enough for their loyal fanbase. While there were a lot of individuals happy for the Panthers finally winning it after falling short against the Las Vegas Golden Knights last year, some were not in the best of moods.
“It sucks for the Oilers to come oh so close and fall just short. But what an amazing and exciting run they had! I’m sure McDavid and Co. will have more cracks at Lord Stanley. Congratulations to the Panthers! Really not a fan of their team, but I’m glad for Paul Maurice,” a fan declared.
“Hard not to be depressed, still so proud of the Oilers. I can’t be mad either. Panthers played very well, and they do deserve the cup, eggs. Sucks because the Oilers definitely had the potential. we go next,” another solid Oilers fan said.
It’s back to the drawing board for these two teams. The Panthers, however, still have parties and parades to tend to unlike the Oilers.
