The Florida Panthers Reilly Mike on Waivers

On Friday, defenceman Mike Reilly was placed on waivers by the Florida Panthers.Since joining the Panthers on July 1 as an unrestricted free agent, Reilly has only appeared in two games. He was minus two and failed to record a point.Prior to Mike’s team debut against the Blue Jackets, Panthers coach Maurice stated, “If you were asking this before the opening game, I would say Mike would be within the first three or four games.”

However, they performed admirably, and I was a little hesitant to start rotating defensemen in and out of the lineup because we had four new players. It’s the ideal time to bring a man in since he’s been practicing a lot and our defense hasn’t played well in a few of our games.

“Everyone is getting a little wet under the knees, but when you take a player out right now, I believe he’ll return with a little more edge and confidence.”

Reilly would not have to worry about being claimed by a team or being sent down to the minors if his $1 million contract was not paid.

With Reilly off the roster, the Panthers’ cap room would be little less than $1.5 million.

Josh Mahura would be placed on injured reserve, leaving Florida with a roster of 22 players.

Mahura’s lower-body injury will require an additional five to seven days, according to Maurice, before he can rejoin the lineup.

The move might make room for the Panthers to sign Patrick Kane, a former star of the Chicago Blackhawks, who many NHL insiders think they should be the first pick.
