The Niners are now just a win away from their second league crown in program history and their second NCAA Tournament appearance in school history. Charlotte’s lone conference crown (Atlantic 10) and NCAA appearance came in 2007. Additionally, a 19th win on the season would tie a Charlotte record for most overall victories in a single season, set in 1979.
6-seed Charlotte clinched their spot in the championship match by blanking 11-seed Temple in the first round, storming back from a 3-1 deficit to defeat 3-seed Florida Atlantic in the quarterfinals, and recovering from trailing 2-0 against 10-seed Tulane in Saturday’s semifinals.
Memphis’ path to the championship included a first-round bye, a 4-1 quarterfinals victory over South Florida, and a 4-2 semifinals win over Memphis.
ALL EYES ON THE AMERICAN
In the American Athletic Conference, there is no formal regular-season conference competition. Seeding for the 2024 AAC Conference Tournament in Tulsa, Okla. is determined solely by ITA Rankings. Since there are no set conference schedules, the games that conference foes do play against one another matter even more.
The Niners were 3-3 against fellow American Athletic Conference programs in the regular season. Charlotte has road wins over FAU and UAB, plus a home win to Wichita State but losses to South Florida, Tulane, and Rice.
