Stoke news: Tom Cannon transfer update

Tom Cannon transfer update as Stoke City faced with dangerous game

Tom Cannon remains a summer transfer target for Stoke City – but any deal for the young Leicester City striker could come with huge risks for Steven Schumacher and Co.

Foxes boss Steve Cooper addressed Cannon’s future after he was an unused sub in Monday’s Premier League opener against Spurs. The game ended 1-1, but Cannon was left on the bench when Cooper replaced goal hero Jamie Vardy in the second half at the King Power Stadium, opting to use winger Stephy Mavididi instead.

And that means should Stoke fail to do a deal for the former Preston man, who is also wanted on loan by several rival clubs, they may not have time to find an alternative, dealing a huge blow to their Championship prospects, at least until the window opens again in January.

Asked about Cannon’s future, Cooper said: “I can better answer that when we know what the squad will end up looking like. For sure Tom’s a good young player who has a future in front of him. It’s our jobs as managers to put the best team out to win games, but it’s also to make sure we put the right programmes on for the younger players.

“We will do that with Tom. What that looks like at the moment I don’t know, but he’s very much part of today’s work. Until things change, that’s how it will be. But I’m probably better to answer that one closer to the end of the window.”
