What a week it has been for Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland.

Two days after being named in the England squad for next month’s World Cup finals he pulled off his save of the season by proposing to air hostess girlfriend Annabel Peyton.

The 25-year-old popped the question over a romantic dinner in the Italian resort of Portofino during a quick pre-World Cup break… and this was one catch he got right.

Jack has not always looked comfortable claiming possession during Stoke’s relegation season, but there were no problems this time as the lady of his dreams said “yes”.

And he was quick to announce the happy news to the world, posting the message “Mrs B to Be” on Instagram with a picture of the happy couple.

They first sparked up a romance in 2016 after meeting in Dubai while Jack was on a mid-season break with Stoke City, but just where they will set up home remains in doubt.

Stoke team-mates past and present posting messages of congratulations on Instagram included Charlie Adam, Marc Muniesa, Tyrese Campbell, Andy Wilkinson and old glove rival Thomas Sorensen.

Jack’s romantic break will end on Monday when he meets up with his England team-mates to begin the final preparations before the World Cup with friendlies against Nigeria and Costa Rica. England’s first game is against Tunisia in Volgograd on Monday, June 18.
