Stoke City player ratings vs Fleetwood as Viktor Johansson heroics win it in front of new boss

Stoke City are through to the Carabao Cup last 16 thanks to Viktor Johansson heroics in a penalty shoot-out win over Fleetwood in front of prospective boss Narcis Pelach.

Michael Rose had seemed to be through thanks to a second-half header for a team sent out by caretaker boss Ryan Shawcross, who was animated in the technical area.

Here are the player ratings from the be365 Stadium

Johansson: Smart save to stop Matty Virtue in opening stages and quick off his line to sweep up when required. Superb penalty shoot-out. 8.5

Dixon: Some tricky moments up against Phoenix Patterson in first half but stuck to task and never shied. Useful through balls and always willing to take the ball. Excellent second half. 7

Stevens: Welcome return for influential left-back, albeit for just 45 minutes. Calm head and plays sensibly. 6.5

Phillips: Has the build of Van Dijk and keen to impose himself on the game, stepping up to win headers and make interceptions. Forced off after taking a Danny Mayor shot in the chops from close range. 6.5

Rose: Back in defence for first time since pre-season injury. Nice run and header for crucial opening goal. 7

Sidibe: Usually only needs one touch to spread the play and find a teammate and two superb recovery tackles as he swept up for someone else’s mistake. Set up Rose goal with corner. 8.5

Thompson: Customary yellow card for lunge on Carl Johnston. Sat in central midfield with Sidibe as he led the team out as captain for first time. 6.5

Moran: Enjoyed himself in role with licence to roam. Crashed shot into crossbar and was neat in link up play with Koumas and Manhoef. 7

Manhoef: Sometimes tried to do a bit too much but he’s got the skill and the pace to do more than most. Smashed free-kick into bar. 6.5

Koumas: Back leading the line. Forced a near post save in first half and maintained a threat with his running and craft. 7

Junho: Still finding his top gear. Was keen to join in with play when he could in the final third but yet to get into the dangerous moments expected of him. 6

Substitutes

Wilmot (for Phillips, 41): Slotted into central defence in place of injured Phillips and might have opened scoring. Caught flat footed for equaliser. 5.5

Bocat (for Stevens, 46): Straight into action with a well-hit long ranger that fairly fizzed and quick and committed in his defence. 7

Burger (for Moran, 62): Caught an absolute humdinger of a left footer that slapped into Brendan Wiredu as he helped control last half hour. 6.5

Cannon (for Junho, 62): Couldn’t believe he didn’t bury one-on-one after pouncing on loose ball but showed situations when he will be alive. 6.5
