Steve Cooper says Stoke City is still on Tom Cannon deal

Steve Cooper was being coy when he was asked about Leicester’s intention to bring in another striker this week, as Championship clubs wait on the availability of Tom Cannon.

Stoke City are among the second division teams who have had Cannon, aged 21, on their summer shopping lists after he remained on the fringes during Leicester’s promotion campaign last term. He is stuck down the pecking order under Cooper but injuries have meant his exit has not yet been sanctioned.

Leicester have now brought in Jordan Ayew from Crystal Palace, however, and they are tipped to want another forward and an attacking midfielder before the deadline passes at 11pm on Friday. That should loosen their grip on Cannon, who was left out of their squad for a defeat at Fulham on Saturday and has been expected to be available for loan – but might even be sold at a price.

But Cooper was giving little away when he was asked about bringing in another front man, telling LeicestershireLive: “I feel you want to improve any position. I really believe in the guys who are here. They have to get each other’s undivided attention, they have to get my undivided attention. If that looks a little bit different and it means we are a stronger squad, any manager would want that.
