Despite claiming promotion almost two weeks ago, Wrexham defender Luke Bolton has warned that his side will not be taking their foot off the gas for the visit of title-winners Stockport County.
The North Wales outfit have enjoyed a wonderful season, marking two promotions in a row. However, Parkinson’s side have not taken their foot off the pedal as is usually expected with promoted sides.
With the pressure off, Wrexham have shown no signs of slowing down. A comfortable 3-0 victory away at promotion-hopefuls Crewe Alexandra presses home the fact that the side are not done yet.
Also hoping to end the season on an even greater high will be League Two winners Stockport County who have claimed the title in recent weeks. The two teams battled for promotion in the National League in the 2021/22 season and the Hatters will be hoping to claim a league double over their rivals this time around.
The two sides will meet at The Racecourse Ground on Saturday afternoon and despite nothing being strictly on the line for either team, there is promise of another memorable meeting between the two clubs in a party atmosphere.
Last time, Stockport County claimed a 5-0 victory over The Red Dragons at Edgeley Park in a fixture that saw Isaac Olaofe score a hattrick. Luke Bolton who joined Parkinson’s side from Salford City since that defeat has warned that his new side will be looking for a victory on the final day [quotes via The Leader]:
“We want to win every game that we play,” the fullback said.
“Okay, we are promoted but it doesn’t mean that we down tools now.
“That’s not the group we are and that’s not the staff that we have either.
“We prepare for every game professionally, even now after getting promoted, and can’t wait for the weekend.
“I think both teams will be very happy that there is nothing on the game, if you like, and we have both secured promotion before the final game.
“It will still be a very competitive game because they are champions and we are third going into the game.
“There will be a party atmosphere, we’ll have the fans behind us and we can really enjoy it.”
Bolton has also admitted Wrexham will be eager to avenge the 5-0 defeat against Stockport at Edgeley Park in September.
“We have won four games on the bounce and got ourselves promoted,” Bolton continued.
“It’s the final game against the champions. Earlier in the season we lost at their place so I think we owe them one.”
Wrexham will welcome The Hatters to The Racecourse this Saturday on the penultimate day of League Two as both sides look forward to next season in their returns to the third tier.
