Bernardo Silva sends warning to new Manchester City players this summer with “unacceptable” rule
Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva has sent a warning to any player looking to finalise a move into the Etihad Stadium squad this summer.
Etihad Stadium officials are expected to be busy in the upcoming transfer market once again, as they look to strengthen Pep Guardiola’s squad to compete for yet another Premier League trophy and wider accolades across the course of the season.
Recent claims have stated that Manchester City will look to invest quite significantly in their midfield ranks, amid concerns over the futures of a number of first-team stars, and the potential longevity of others.
However, the process of embedding oneself into the Manchester City squad has proven to be a challenge for some, with Bernardo Silva explaining exactly what needs to be done by players who reach agreements over Etihad careers.
Speaking after Manchester City’s record-breaking fourth successive Premier League title win, Bernardo Silva was keen to credit the recruitment process and building of Pep Guardiola’s squad, whilst sending a clear warning to potential new signings for the summer.
“I think the way this team is built, the way they choose and sign players, they know that if everyone works hard, we’re a step closer to winning (trophies),” Bernardo Silva explained.
“(As) senior players, we need to make sure that the new players feel the same way that I felt when I came to the Club.”
He continued, “When Fernandinho, Vinny Kompany, David Silva, Aguero, they made sure that I gave my all, we’ve got to make sure that the new players feel the same way, in this team it’s unacceptable to not work hard and to not give 100% and that’s what we do every game.”
Bernardo Silva could be at the centre of a transfer saga himself this summer, with the Portugal international understood to be open to a Manchester City exit for the fourth successive summer market.
Barcelona are widely believed to be his most likely option should an exit be secured, however the La Liga giants continue to face their own internal financial constraints that would require a reduction in transfer fee for the 29-year-old.
