Ryan Reynolds makes Paul Mullin ‘Shakespeare’ joke when explaining why Wrexham ‘family’ were given cameo roles in Deadpool & Wolverine Hollywood blockbuster
Eagle-eyed supporters spotted several weeks ago that Red Dragons striker Ollie Palmer appeared to have landed himself an extra role in the Hollywood blockbuster. He later confirmed as much, with the experienced frontman “blagging” his way into the production.
It was later revealed that 105-goal forward Mullin also featured in the eagerly-anticipated release from Marvel Studios. The prolific Wrexham star plays the role of ‘Welshpool’, with the 29-year-old stepping out of his comfort zone in order to grace the big screen.
Reynolds has told The Athletic of why Wrexham stars were drafted into the Deadpool fold: “I love stunt placing friends and family in my films. Since Wrexham is family to me it seemed crazy to not honour the town and club in some way. Shooting the film in England afforded easy opportunities to have players pop down. Most people don’t know this because of his football, but Paul trained for eight years with the Royal Shakespeare company. They still talk about his Prospero…”
While Mullin has dipped his toe into the world of acting, he is very much focused on his day job ahead of the 2024-25 campaign. Wrexham’s talismanic No.10 is recovering from summer surgery that will force him to miss the opening weeks of the new League One season.
