Roy Hodgson should now give £11m Palace man a proper chance

Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze is currently injured and it feels like now is the right time for Roy Hodgson to give Naouirou Ahamada a proper chance.

Crystal Palace played poorly on the weekend and lost away from home to Luton. The misery piled on as Cheick Doucoure picked up a possible season-ending injury, whilst reports suggest Eberechi Eze will be injured for the next few weeks.

The injuries continue for the Eagles and arguably these two are the worst injuries in the squad, with both being key players.

Now, Roy Hodgson has to turn things around after losing four of the last five games. We believe now is the perfect chance to give Ahamada more consistent minutes and give the player a chance in the starting lineup.

The midfielder is a lot more attacking than Jeffrey Schlupp and Will Hughes. He is the exact type of replacement we need in Eze’s role instead of a more defensive option like Hodgson always prefers.

Ahamada has featured seven times in the Premier League this season, but is still yet to start. He has only played 77 minutes in the division this campaign.

The Frenchman is only 21-years-old so he has an abundance of time to become a key player for the Eagles; however, he clearly has potential and if he isn’t given more chances he will want to leave.

Before signing for Palace for around £11m, Ahamada played in the Bundesliga for Stuttgart. He started 20 times for his former club in the German league.

This is a very tough division and Ahamada starting consistently for Stuttgart emphasises that he has the quality to start for Palace whilst Eze is out.

With Doucoure injured, it will be very likely that Hughes and Jefferson Lerma play in the two central midfield spots. This leaves Eze’s role free. Based on passed lineups, Hodgson will probably place Schlupp there.

The player has been featuring mainly on the left-wing this season, where he only has one goal and no assists. This lack of creative threat sees him as a poor replacement for Eze, so now is the time to give someone like Ahamada a chance.
