Coventry City’s ‘Lifeless’ Performance: Mark Robins Demands More
Coventry City manager Mark Robins was left fuming after his team’s lackluster performance against Preston North End, lambasting his players for being “scared stiff” on the pitch.
The Sky Blues’ 2-0 defeat at Deepdale was a disappointing display that left Robins tearing his hair out in frustration.
“We were scared stiff from the first whistle to the last,” Robins seethed in his post-match interview. “We didn’t want to take any risks, we didn’t want to get on the ball, we didn’t want to make anything happen. It was like we were waiting for something to happen instead of making it happen ourselves.”
Robins’ scathing critique was a stark contrast to the praise he heaped on his team after their impressive win over Middlesbrough just a week prior. But against Preston, Coventry City looked like a shadow of their former selves, lacking the confidence and creativity that has defined their season so far.
“We looked like a team that was waiting to get beat,” Robins continued. “We didn’t have any spark, any energy, any desire. It was like we were just going through the motions. That’s not acceptable at this level.”
Robins’ frustration was palpable as he lamented his team’s inability to take control of the game. “We didn’t create anything, we didn’t test their goalkeeper, we didn’t make any chances. It was a really poor performance from us.”
The defeat leaves Coventry City languishing in mid-table, a far cry from their promotion ambitions at the start of the season. Robins will be looking for a drastic improvement when his team takes on Swansea City next week.
