Football pundit Carlton Palmer believes Ipswich Town should look at Manchester United winger Amad Diallo to add to their attacking options, as reported in The Football League World.
Former England international Palmer is of the belief that Town boss Kieran McKenna should use his links with the Premier League giants to get his hands on the Ivorian attacker in the January transfer window.
The Tractor Boys have been in superb form this season, taking 52 points from a possible 66 and are the Championship’s top scorers with 47 goals. Goals have been shared out amongst the squad, with top scorers Conor Chaplin and Nathan Broadhead having only eight goals apiece.
Ipswich’s lack of a main goal scorer has led to reports from Alan Nixon via Patreon that the club will sanction a transfer kitty of £3 million for the manager to add to his forward options. Town have been linked with Hertha Berlin’s prolific striker Derry Scherhant but Palmer believes Diallo could be the man to complete McKenna’s attack.
The former Atalanta youngster was impressive on loan at Sunderland last term, scoring on 14 occasions as the Black Cats made the playoffs. Palmer suggests that Ipswich are missing that out-and-out goal scorer who can score 20 plus a season. He said, “They drew against Norwich on the weekend, but created plenty of chances. They are just missing that ruthlessness that a 20-goal-a-season man brings. I think if they get that man, that could see them over the line for back-to-back promotions.”
Former Sheffield Wednesday midfield man Palmer went on,“£3m for an out-and-out goalscorer is not a lot of money, and I’m sure Kieran has one eye on the Premier League, so he may look at someone capable of making the step up.”
“Kieran has used the loan market to good advantage this season, taking young players from Premier League clubs, so that might be one avenue he looks to go down.”
A report from TeamTalk recently suggested that Diallo is desperate for a chance to prove himself at Old Trafford after his injury. Sunderland is suggested to be in competition with other Championship clubs for Diallo’s loan signature and a return to the Stadium of Light.

Ipswich has so many attacking options and players that can fill the position that Diallo would take. George Hirst, Broadhead, Chaplin and Wes Burns are supported by players like Freddie Ladapo and Marcus Harness.
Amad Diallo, despite his impressive form with Sunderland last year, doesn’t fit the bill of an out-and-out goal scorer and will be an expensive addition to a squad that is in great form. His arrival could potentially unsettle the way the team approach matches and won’t fill the role the club are reportedly looking to improve.
Ipswich Town are likely to look elsewhere in their search for their 20-goal-a-year man.
