Prediction for Crystal Palace vs Burnley as Oliver Glasner oversees 1st game

Crystal Palace begin the Oliver Glasner era this weekend as they welcome relegation candidates Burnley to Selhurst Park.

Oliver Glasner will be desperate to kick-start his Crystal Palace career with three points this weekend and facing Burnley, he’s got a great chance to do so.

There isn’t long left to wait now until Glasner walks out into Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon, hopefully to an incredible ovation.

Hopes are high and they’re only getting higher with Glasner himself promising Palace fans a lot of goals in his interview on Thursday.

Now though, Paul Merson has had his say on how this weekend will go for Palace. Here’s what he predicted…

Writing in his weekly predictions column on SportsKeeda, Merson predicted Glasner’s Premier League bow.

He wrote: “This is a massive game. Crystal Palace had a decent result at Everton, and games like these are their bread and butter. If they win this game, they’ll have picked up four points from two matches. They’re playing at home this weekend, and I’d really worry for them if they drop points in this game.

“Burnley do have an upset in them. I’ve seen them go to places like Nottingham Forest and get a result – it isn’t beyond them. Crystal Palace have a new manager and a feel-good factor about them, however, and it could get them over the line.”

Merson then ended by stating his prediction is a 2-0 home win for Palace, something which would be absolutely huge for the Austrian manager on his first matchday where we hope to see instant improvement.

Palace with a win on Saturday will move onto 28 points which could see them overtake Brentford and go level on points with Bournemouth in 13th, only behind on goal difference unless Palace scores three or more.

Bournemouth will then be facing Manchester City on Saturday evening which could either see Palace drop to 14th or cement themselves at 13th.

Glasner will then need to wait until Monday night to see where he’ll enter next week, with Brentford having to chance to get their position back by facing West Ham.

Three points are so important for Palace in order to see them enter this group as opposed to being dragged toward the Everton and Luton’s of the league.
