Porzingis To Miss Celtics’ In-Season Tournament Quarterfinal

The Boston Celtics star Kristaps Porzingis will miss the in-season tournament quarterfinal against the Indiana Pacers on Monday night.

Porzingis is still recovering from a left calf strain that he picked up during the Celtics’ 113-96 loss to the Orlando Magic on November 24. He has subsequently missed three games.

Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla confirmed that Porzingis will remain on the sidelines until his injury is reevaluated “after a week or so”. This is a frustrating disruption in what has otherwise been an impressive first season for Porzingis at the Celtics, with the Latvian averaging almost 19 points with 54.7% shooting from the field.

The Pacers are also set to be shorthanded for Monday’s quarterfinal, with star guard Tyrese Haliburton listed as questionable after he suffered a non-COVID illness and a bone bruise in his right knee that ruled him out of Saturday’s win over the Miami Heat. Forward Jalen Smith is out with left knee and heel injuries.
