Today, the Phoenix Suns signed Grayson Allen to a four-year, $70 million contract. Although the Phoenix Suns are known for their big three, Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal, Grayson Allen is a key piece to the playoffs-bound team.
Why Did The Phoenix Suns Sign Grayson Allen For $70 Million
The Suns have been an inconsistent team in the regular season. They would win several games in a row and then lose several games shortly after. Phoenix also had Bradley Beal hurt throughout the season, which led to inconsistencies in their chemistry on the floor.
However, the Suns can thank Grayson Allen for being one of the few consistencies in their surprise-filled season. The shooting guard led the league this year in 3-point percentage, shooting 46.1% from beyond the arc. Phoenix is known as a shooting team with Beal, Durant, Booker, and Allen on the floor.
Grayson Allen averaged 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists this season. He is shooting an efficient 50% from the field and 87.8% from the free-throw line.
Suns Upcoming Playoff Series With The Minnesota Timberwolves
Phoenix defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 125-106 yesterday in the regular season finale. Their win created a first-round series with Minnesota.
The Phoenix Suns and Anthony Edwards have a history of beef. The star Timberwolves guard trashed the Suns in the past for their embarrassing game 7 against the Dallas Mavericks. Anthony Edwards also brushed off the news of the Kevin Durant trade to the Suns with what many can say is a hilarious interview clip by saying, “They got KD, but we got Jaden McDaniels.”
Phoenix Has Figured Out The Timberwolves Defense
The Timberwolves must feel like Michael Jordan by how personal they may take this playoff series. Minnesota has the top-ranked defense in the NBA this season. However, their worst defensive game came against Phoenix, where they gave up 133 points. They also had their worst offensive game this season against the Suns by scoring 87 points in a loss to them. The Suns won all three meetings against the Timberwolves this season.
Bradley Beal isn’t underestimating the Minnesota Timberwolves. He told ESPN, “We can’t just look at the numbers or box score and think that we can come out and just run through the series. It’s going to be a tough grind-it-out game every single night.”
History is on the Suns’ side with winning those three games against the Timberwolves. The Suns also finished the regular season on a 10-4 surge. Their late-season hot streak helped them secure the 6th seed and a Pelicans loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Phoenix also has championship DNA on their team with former NBA Champions like Durant and Allen. Their recent acquisition of Isaiah Thomas can play a factor for their bench in the series. However, Minnesota is looking like a well-oiled machine outside of their loss yesterday. They have everyone healthy and great defensive players in Gobert, McDaniels, Edwards, Reid, and even Mike Conley.
