Philippe Clement wants to make Abdallah Sima’s Rangers stay from Brighton permanent.

The attacker arrived at the club on a season-long loan as part of Michael Beale’s summer overhaul and has been one of the impressive performers alongside No1 Jack Butland. The former Ibrox No2 and QPR gaffer was axed and replaced by the current manager and the Belgian is a fan of the 22-year-old as he looks to convince him to remain in Glasgow.

He netted a double in the weekend win over St Mirren to take his season tally for the campaign in all competitions to 11 strikes to date. He remains under contract at the Seagulls until 2025 meaning he is due to report back down south at the end of the season but Clement hopes to strike a deal to keep him long-term insisting a future at Ibrox is the ideal place from him to grow as a player, person and in everything else.

The Rangers boss explained: “If he is continuing what he is doing now, I think this is also a good place for him to grow, as a player, as a person, in everything. It’s not about assessing that in the summer. There will be talks faster than that. But of course it’s really early to be doing that now.

“And Abdallah has shown that in these weeks. It’s hasn’t been the whole time that he’s getting praise. But he also fights through and that’s also one of the things we need to look really hard into in the assessment of players.

“It’s not just the physical, tactical and technical qualities – there’s personality too, the ability to be strong in the environment of a winning club.
