Phil Parkinson hails Wrexham ‘professionalism’ after Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney’s side battle

Phil Parkinson was delighted with Wrexham’s “professionalism” as his side came from behind to beat Morecambe in their League Two clash on Saturday.

WHAT HAPPENED?
The Reds Dragons fell behind in the fourth minute after Ged Garner put the hosts ahead. However, goals from James McClean, Paul Mullin, and substitute Steven Fletcher fired Wrexham to a memorable away win against a 10-man Morecambe, who had Max Melbourne sent off early in the second half. Parkinson was pleased to see his troops make a stellar comeback after falling behind early, which was a testament to his team’s character in adversity.

WHAT PARKINSON SAID
Speaking to reporters after the match, Parkinson said: “I knew this was going to be a very difficult game for us so it was a huge win against a side in good form who fancy their chances of making the play-offs. It was a bad start for us and it took us a little while to get going but as the second half wore on we got better and better.

“We needed to scrap out a result in those conditions and I felt we did that really well today. When they went down to 10 men we kept plugging away, because it is not a given that you will go on to win the game. But we kept the momentum up and I was really pleased with the professionalism we showed. We now have two home games coming up this week and we will look to build on this.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Mullin was once again the best player on the pitch as he showed little mercy to his former team in front of goal. He forced a defensive mistake before setting up McClean for his equaliser, and he then got himself on the scoresheet after converting from the spot by sending goalkeeper Archie Mair the wrong way. It was his 17th goal of the campaign and 90th overall for the Red Dragons.

WHAT NEXT?
Wrexham are just three points adrift of leaders Mansfield Town and, after racking up successive league victories, Parkinson’s team look well poised going into the final 10 games of the season. They will face Harrogate on Tuesday evening, who have failed to win any of their last six matches.
