Phil Parkinson explains why Dan Scarr is not starting games

Wrexham have had a superb start to the 2024/25 season but Dan Scarr is struggling to break into the team.

Scarr was a regular feature for Plymouth in the Championship, making 31 appearances across all competitions in the previous campaign.

Now though, the centre-back may be regretting his decision to swap Devon for Wales.

Wrexham are currently second in the League One table going into their weekend meeting with Birmingham City.

The Welsh outfit have won three and drawn one of their opening four games, with several new players impressing.

Scarr, however, has not been so lucky and is yet to start a League One game in 2024/25.

In fact, the stopper has been left on the bench for all four of Wrexham’s league matches this term, only featuring in a League Cup defeat to Sheffield United last month.

Now, Phil Parkinson has offered an explanation for the centre-back’s lack of minutes, as per Leader Live, stating that he wants to give the established Wrexham players a chance to keep their spots.

He said “In my time here, we have given the existing lads who have done well for us the opportunity because they deserve that.

“But as the season goes on, as we know it is about the squad and being able to make changes to freshen the team up when the midweek games come.

“Lewis and Dan understand the situation. They have come in, they both had really good seasons and were key players at their previous clubs.

“Equally, the lads already here have done really well but they are pushing really hard which is great and their opportunities will come, sometimes when you least expect it.”
